Domestic flights make Brazil's scale manageable, but airport code, baggage, and separate-ticket risk matter more than the advertised flight time. A cheap itinerary can become expensive when it changes airports in São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro or leaves no protection after a delay.
Check the airport code first
São Paulo commonly involves Guarulhos (GRU), Congonhas (CGH), or Viracopos (VCP). Rio uses Galeão (GIG) and Santos Dumont (SDU). Belo Horizonte's main airport at Confins (CNF) is far from many central neighborhoods. Never assume two flights displaying the same city use the same airport.
One ticket or separate tickets?
On one protected itinerary, the airline generally recognizes the connection as a complete journey under its current terms. With separate tickets, the second airline may treat a missed flight as your problem. Add enough time to collect luggage, exit, transfer terminals or airports, and check in again.
An overnight hotel can be the sensible price of protection before a remote lodge, cruise, festival, or international departure.

Request mobility, sensory, medical-device, or other airport assistance through the airline in the timeframe it specifies, then reconfirm before departure. Record the request code and describe equipment dimensions or battery type accurately. Assistance time belongs inside the connection calculation; a short legal connection may not allow a dignified transfer even when both flights appear in one reservation.
Book around the rare segment
If a regional flight operates on limited days, check that first, then place the flexible trunk flight around it. Confirm the actual operating airline on codeshares. A route shown in search results may involve a technical stop or aircraft change not obvious from the headline.
Airport transfer planning
Save the airport name, code, terminal, accommodation address, and approved pickup plan offline. Compare airport bus, rail, taxi, app ride, and hotel transfer based on arrival time and luggage. Late arrival is not the moment to research which airport you used.
Disruption folder
Keep screenshots of the itinerary, baggage purchase, airline contact, insurance details, and the next accommodation. If disrupted, communicate through the airline's official app, desk, or phone channel. Retain receipts and read current ANAC and airline guidance before accepting or rejecting alternatives.
When the bus is better
On corridors such as nearby Northeast capitals or São Paulo–Rio, an intercity bus may eliminate airport transfers and separate-ticket risk. Use the long-distance bus guide and compare true door-to-door time.

- Exact airport codes match the intended city and transfer.
- Passenger names and documents match.
- Baggage is priced in the total.
